The focus of this class is learning the fundamentals for building murrini and twisted cane patterns. We explore how the glass flows and build a variety of different patterns, each illustrating a key concept or principal. Three different types of pots are used and three different profiles of cane are pulled. Students are guided through the stacking techniques and have the opportunity to pull the cane using a vitrigraph kiln. Participants work in teams of two, with each team building and pulling four designs including one they have designed themselves with their partner. Once all the pots are pulled, the cane is distributed so everyone has a sample of each pattern to incorporate into a small project. Detailed written instructions for each design are provided and the loading of each design is demonstrated during the class.
Experience cutting glass is required.
8 students maximum or 2 students per vitrigraph kiln.
