what is fused glass?

Odds are, you have heard of a couple of these:

  • Stained Glass

  • Fused Glass

  • Blown Glass (aka glass blowing)

Stained glass artists…

They cut room temperature glass and combine them with metal, using a technique called soldering, to create beautiful works of art.

Blown glass artists…

They heat chunks of glass to around 2000°F, manipulate it while it's in a molten state, then carefully cool it to create gorgeous glass sculptures and vessels.

Fused glass artists…

We work between these two art forms. Fusing requires lower temperatures than blowing glass and all the heat work is done inside a kiln. Fused glass artists use some of the techniques and tools from both stained glass and blown glass to manipulate the glass into incredible art pieces.

fuse (v): melting with intense heat to join two things together

Fused glass art involves choosing glass, cutting glass, setting it up just so, heating and cooling the glass just right using a kiln, and finishing it beautifully.

All glass will melt. Not all glass will fuse together without breaking.

We're here to show you how. We'll guide you through which steps to combine for beautiful effect, what tools and knowledge you need to complete your vision, or simply help you figure out what it is you want to create.
