Thin Skins: Enamel, Mica, and Irid
The dense color of enamels and metallic shine of micas and iridization all exist as the thinnest of layers on the glass surface - and that's the magic.
This class will teach you a variety of ways of applying enamels and micas - including frisket sifting, air brushing and more. Then you will learn to a variety of sandblasting methods to selectively remove the material (as well as iridization) for some real palette-expanding techniques!
You'll learn about the unique "separating" properties of mica and iridized surfaces and how to use them to your advantage for fantastic effects.
Students will take home a selection of sample tiles to uses as reference pieces for future work and a small finished bowl.
